Better days are coming
We are only a few weeks away from the start of Spring which officially begins on 20th March. However, there are already many signs of its coming all around us; daffodils by the wayside, lambs in the fields and slightly lighter evenings already.
The change of seasons can be an exciting time, filled with annual activities and holidays that we look forward to experiencing, such as Easter. However, for many it can also be unsettling if we let worries of the unknown cloud our perspective.
When change appears on the horizon, here are three Bible verses to remind us to keep our eyes on God and the comfort which His unchanging promises bring.
“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22
The consistency of the earth’s seasons is a reflection of its Maker and the steadiness of His character. The book of James 1:17-19 tells us that, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variation, or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.”
Our Father cares for every one of His creations, from the littlest sparrow to the mightiest rhino. And He calls us more precious than any of these. We can rest assured in any time of uncertainty that His love and provision for us will never fail.
“To everything there is a season. A time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
The book of Ecclesiastes gives us many examples of seasons we’ll face in life: times of birth, death, weeping and joy. The Bible shows us that experiencing good and bad times in our lives is normal and to be expected. Though it’s easy to hold onto our hope in happy situations, we shouldn’t let changing circumstances cause our faith to falter.
Jesus promised us that, we like him will overcome all, if we put our trust in God. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. God is with us in every season of our lives. When we face the unknown, we can trust that He is in control and working out every situation for our good.
“He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season. Whose leaf also shall not wither and whatsoever he does shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3
Psalm 1 teaches us that by putting our delight in studying the ways of God, we will be like a tree growing by a stream that produces good fruit. John wrote words of encouragement, “Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us-eternal life.” 1 John 2:24-25
This month, as we say goodbye to Winter and turn our attention to the coming of Spring, with its new beginnings, fresh flowers and longer days, let us remember the good plans that God has for us and our future. This focus will create in us a firm foundation that never sways, even in the face of change.
